Well folks, only a few weeks left until Summer is officially here, again. Shocking, we know! And whilst many of you may have done a Marie Kondo session or 2 over the past months, for those who haven’t yet done a Spring Clean, don’t worry we’ve got you!

Spring cleaning is a term that can bring mixed emotions, rightly so! It can be a dreaded task because it certainly takes some elbow grease, but never will you undertake a spring clean without feeling a deep satisfaction after a task well done.

In fact, it’s statistically proven that no one has ever regretted a Spring Clean, the bigger the better. Source – Hayden, our Office Manager.

We know a thing or two about waste so we’ve put our reasonable experience into writing to offer up 8 helpful tips to make the job easy, fluid and rewarding for you!

Tip 1 – Pick a day and tIme in advance, it mentally prepares you.

Setting aside a day or two to really tackle the job thoroughly you will truly feel like you have a new home. If it’s been years since your home has had a good spring clean it can feel overwhelming for sure but don’t put it off another year. If committing a day or two isn’t possible, set aside a couple of 2- 3 hour blocks where you can make the magic happen.

Tip 2 – Have a list.

Create a list of everything you want to get through and chunk it down. You could go the snowball effect or opt for the avalanche.

  • Snowball – start with the smaller easier tasks, they help you feel like you are in momentum and give you a run up to the bigger list items.
  • The Avalanche – tackle the tough stuff first and get the bulk of the list done up front. The smaller tasks seem easier after that!

Tip 3 – Prepare everything you need to have on hand.

When will I learn? When I finally buy the right tools for a job and it takes 2 seconds not 10 minutes? It’s worth the investment guys. Pre Purchase or prepare your Mops, buckets, sponges, scrubbing brushes, clothes, cleaning products. When you get started you don’t want to have to stop to run to the shops for forgotten items. Set yourself up for maximum flow.

Tip 4 – Consider converting a home office.

Well, to be fair, given the past 3 years you’ve probably ticked this one off. Pros – All day snacks, lunch times showers, ample time to do the washing. Cons, too much snacking, not enough social engagement.

If you’ve been toying with the idea, why not use this as an opportunity to clean out that old spare room or storage room and give yourself a study or work space.

Tip 5. Call in help.

If you have large and heavy items to move make sure you call in help in advance so that you get through the tasks desired without over exertion or injury. We get by with a little help from our friends.

Tip 6. Hire a skip.

Without a doubt, for convenience and efficiency it’s worth hiring a skip. All of the unneeded items pile up more quickly than we expect and having a skip on site means that the clean will be completed by the time the weekend is out. No trip to the tip needed. No piles in the garage as you try week by week to squeeze it into your regular waste bin.

The best type of bin for this job will be one of our General Waste Bins. Jumbo skips ensure that general waste is sorted and recyclable materials separated as much as possible. Check out our bin sizes here

Tip 7. Make it fun and reward yourself.

Make sure your speakers are charged, get the tunes pumping and have some good food and beverages in the fridge to keep you energised and to give you something to look forward to.

Tip 8. Don’t forget the backyard

The green waste cuttings pile up faster than you may realise. Take it from someone with 2 piles of fallen palms in their yard. Plan ahead and order a green waste skip bin to make sure the job is complete by the end of the weekend. And rest assured knowing that Jumbo Skip Bins Mulches and composts all green waste. Good for the planet, good for your conscience.
