We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking landfill diversion initiative in partnership with ResourceCo, a global leading resource recovery and alternative fuels producer with headquarters in Adelaide, South Australia. This collaboration aims at revolutionising construction and demolition (C&D) waste management in South East Queensland. It not only addresses the critical challenge of having to deliver residual waste to landfill, but it is also testimony of a mutual dedication to sustainability and advancing innovative solutions in waste management.
Through this partnership, Jumbo will deliver dry, non-recyclable construction and demolition (C&D) waste to ResourceCo’s newly established Brisbane Resource Recovery Facility in Hemmant. This state-of-the-art facility is the first in Queensland and a game-changer in the region, transforming waste that would traditionally end up in landfills into Process Engineered Fuel (PEF). This fuel serves as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, powering high-energy industries like cement kilns across Australia and overseas.

The Impact of the Partnership
ResourceCo’s Brisbane Resource Recovery Facility is a significant milestone in their Australian expansion efforts. The $70 million facility, which recently started production, has the capability to divert more than 250,000 tonnes of material from landfill each year, for which it is set to achieve an impressive 95%+ diversion rate from landfill, thereby transforming the resource recovery landscape in Queensland.
By processing non-recyclable dry waste into PEF, the facility plays a vital role in reducing landfill waste and its related harmful methane emissions, while supporting industries in achieving their sustainability goals in line with the upcoming mandatory climate-related reporting coming into effect from January 2025. In fact, the use of PEF not only minimises waste but also reduces our reliance on traditional fossil fuels. As an example, this product reduces greenhouse gas production per tonne of cement produced in comparison to burning fossil fuels.
Therefore, together, we’re taking big strides toward:
- Reducing landfill waste and actively contributing to the Queensland Government Waste Management & Resource Recovery 2050 Targets of becoming a zero-waste society by diverting 90% of waste from landfills across all industries, advancing Queensland’s recycling and circular economy.
- Lowering CO2 emissions, in line with the Queensland Government’s new greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 75% by 2035., and ultimately
- Creating a greener future for South East Queensland and beyond.

Last week, members of the Jumbo team had the opportunity to visit ResourceCo’s cutting-edge Brisbane facility. Graham, our Operations Manager, Chad, our Recycling Supervisor, and Simona, our Marketing Manager, were warmly welcomed by Matthew, Business Development Manager, and Cam, Operations Manager at ResourceCo. The tour provided invaluable insights into the facility’s innovative processes, state-of-the-art European machinery, and the remarkable transformation of residual waste into PEF.
The team witnessed firsthand how waste that would have been destined for landfill is carefully processed and remanufactured into a product that contributes to sustainable energy solutions. This experience reinforced the importance of this partnership and highlighted the incredible potential of ResourceCo’s operations in Queensland to create meaningful environmental change.
