At Jumbo Skip Bins, we’re more than just a waste management company. We’re deeply rooted in our local community, appreciating the support our family business has received over the years. In 2023, we embarked on a journey to give back, making a tangible impact through our monthly fundraising initiatives.
At the start of 2023, we introduced our free end-of-month BBQ for our valued customers, both at Jumbo Skip Bins and Moreton Bay Recycling. Beyond just serving up great snags and bevvies, this initiative aimed to foster stronger connections within our community, right here in the yard and beyond.
Our approach was simple yet powerful: each month, we rally behind a different cause, allowing members of our team to select charities close to their hearts. The response has been phenomenal. From the beginning we have witnessed the generosity of our staff, partners, and clients, all coming together to support those in need.
Since January 2023 we have raised an impressive $5,655.60, a testament to the compassion and goodwill of everyone involved. These donations, though entirely optional, showcased the unwavering spirit of giving within our community.
Our selected charities spanned a diverse range of causes, reflecting the varied interests and personal connections of our team members. Here’s a comprehensive list of the organisations that we have proudly supported, along with the staff members who selected each charity and why:
- Caboolture Community Action – Selected by Operations Manager Darryl in January for their impactful work in providing food relief and housing assistance to the homeless in our local community.
- The Heart Foundation – Chosen by team member Leanne in February due to her personal connection, as her son was born with a heart condition.
- Starlight Children’s Foundation – Thoughtfully selected by driver Glenn in March to support sick children and their families, bringing joy and laughter during difficult times.
- Hummingbird House QLD – Nominated by team member Allan in April in honour of a close friend who received support from this children’s hospice during challenging times.
- Bowel Cancer Australia – Selected by team member Barry in May, who tragically lost his brother to bowel cancer, aiming to raise awareness and support for patients and families affected by the disease.
- Prostate Cancer Foundation Of Australia – Chosen by team member Ross in June during his own testing for prostate cancer, highlighting the importance of research, awareness, and support for affected individuals and families.
- Autism QLD – Supported in August as nominated by a team member due to its dedication to removing barriers and realising potential for autistic individuals.
- R U OK? – Selected by team member Hayden in September for its impactful initiatives empowering meaningful connections and support during challenging times.
- Yalari Foundation – Chosen by team member Connor in October, believing in the importance of providing quality education opportunities for Indigenous children from remote communities.
- The Australian Skin Cancer Foundation – Nominated by team member Drew in November after losing his father to melanoma, aiming to support research and advocacy for skin cancer prevention and treatment.
As we step into 2024, our commitment to making a difference continues. To date we have held BBQs in support of:
- QLD Staffy & SMStaff Rescue– Selected by team member Maddy in January because of her passion for helping animals in need of love and care.
- Eating Disorder Families Australia – Supported in Feb, chosen by team member Tabatha after the loss of a friend’s son to an eating disorder, highlighting the importance of support and education for affected families.
- Head and Neck Cancer Australia – Nominated by team member Paul in March, who lost his father to throat cancer, aiming to raise awareness and improve outcomes for those affected by head and neck cancer.
